Find Dallas County Inmate Records

Dallas County inmate records are found through jail contact channels, sheriff records, court records, and state or federal locators depending on custody status. A Dallas County jail roster search is different from a state prison search because the county jail handles recent arrests and local holds. Look up Dallas County inmates by starting with the adult jail and then checking court, ADOC, VINELink, BOP, or ICE when custody has moved or the person is not found locally.

Dallas County Jail Roster Status

No official Dallas County online adult jail roster, booking list, released-inmate list, or inmate search form was located in the county, sheriff, city, or court pages reviewed. The official Dallas County Jail page publishes the adult jail's contact information, temporary facility address, warden, staff count, and average inmate count, but it does not provide a web form where the public can search current inmates by name.

That lack of an online roster changes the practical search path. A Dallas County inmate records request starts with the jail phone numbers and the sheriff office, then moves to in-person inspection or public-record request channels if a phone call is not enough. For charges filed after an arrest, use the Dallas County Circuit Clerk or Alacourt. For a person sentenced to state prison, use ADOC. Federal and immigration custody require BOP or ICE tools.

Dallas County and Selma do not appear to offer an official sheriff or police mobile app for inmate roster or warrant searches. The research found no app-only roster, app-only warrant lookup, or official jail search app. Use the official contact chain instead.

Current custody should be checked before any other action. A person may be booked under a full legal name, a prior name, or a slightly different spelling than a caller expects. A recent arrest may still be with Selma Police or another arresting agency before county jail confirmation is available. A person who was in the jail earlier may have bonded out, been released by court order, moved to ADOC after sentencing, or been held for another agency.

Search Dallas County Jail Records

The county jail search begins by confirming the person's current custody status. Use the person's full legal name, date of birth or approximate age, arresting agency, and the approximate arrest date. If the arrest just happened, the booking may not yet be reflected in a court record, and if the arrest was by Selma Police, the person may have moved from municipal handling to county jail custody.

  1. Call Dallas County Jail at (334) 690-1203 from the sheriff flyer or (334) 690-1200 from the jail page.
  2. If after hours or urgent, use Dallas County Sheriff's Dispatch at (334) 874-2578.
  3. Ask whether the person is currently in the Dallas County Jail and whether bond, hold, or transfer information is available.
  4. If the arrest was by Selma Police, call (334) 876-1259 or the 24-hour incident line at (334) 876-1220.
  5. If local custody is not confirmed, check ADOC, Alacourt, VINELink, BOP, and ICE based on the possible custody type.

The official county phone directory can help verify jail, sheriff, Circuit Clerk, District Attorney, juvenile detention, and local agency numbers before calling.

Dallas County Roster Search Fields

Dallas County does not publish a roster search interface to inspect. The only accurate field table for the local adult jail is therefore a negative table: the county website publishes contact details but no online search fields. The table is still useful because it prevents a false expectation that a public name search, booking-number search, or mugshot gallery exists on the official county site.

For sentenced prisoners, the ADOC locator provides real search fields. The AIS number is the most exact search key and overrides first and last name fields. Name searches can be used separately or together, and ADOC displays no more than 50 matching records at one time.

Dallas County Inmate Record Fields

Alabama Code section 36-22-8 requires the sheriff to keep a public prisoner record book in the sheriff's office during office hours. For Dallas County, this statutory book is the clearest public record source when no online adult jail profile is posted. These fields are not a promise that every booking detail, bond note, housing assignment, photo, or medical detail is public.

FieldWhat It Shows
NameThe prisoner's name as recorded by the jail.
Age, sex, colorBasic identifying descriptors required by statute.
Distinguishing marksIdentifying description entered in the prisoner record book.
Charge held forThe charge supporting jail custody, not necessarily the final filed court charge.
Order and date of commitmentThe order and date that placed the person into custody.
Order and date of releaseThe order and date authorizing release from custody.
MugshotNot required by the statutory text and not posted online by Dallas County.

Dallas County Jail Facility Contacts

The adult Dallas County Jail is the main local custody facility for adult inmate records. The sheriff's administrative office is separate from the temporary jail address, and the courthouse is a separate court-record counter. Call ahead before going in person because the adult jail is operating from a temporary facility and the county does not publish adult jail visitation, property, or public counter procedures online.

Dallas County Booking Process

Dallas County does not publish a local adult booking-process policy online. A typical local arrest still follows a clear path: the arresting agency transports the person, jail intake records identity and custody information, the person is classified for housing and security, and bond or first-appearance issues are addressed through a judge or magistrate. If the arrest came from Selma Police, the person may first be handled by the municipal agency and then transferred to Dallas County Jail.

The Dallas County Magistrates and Warrants page gives important local detail. It states that a person seeking a warrant first files an incident or offense report with the sheriff or the municipal police department with jurisdiction. For certain felony matters, an officer or investigator accompanies the complainant to the Circuit Clerk's Office. The magistrate decides probable cause, and the official page says an arrest warrant is not public record until it is served.

Note: Booking charges can be preliminary. Formal court charges may differ after prosecutor review.

Request Dallas County Jail Records

When a phone call does not answer the question, ask the sheriff office or jail how to inspect or request the relevant prisoner record. Alabama Code section 36-22-8 supports public access to the sheriff's prisoner record book during office hours. Alabama Code section 36-12-40 provides broader public-record inspection and copying rights for Alabama residents, subject to exceptions. Dallas County did not publish a sheriff-specific online request form in the sources reviewed, so direct contact is the practical route.

A useful request identifies the person, the approximate booking date, the arresting agency, and the exact record sought. Ask for current custody confirmation, the charge held for, commitment and release dates if available, and whether any public copy fees or in-person inspection rules apply. Do not ask the jail for legal advice, expungement decisions, or certified court records. Those issues belong with the court, ALEA, or legal counsel.

Keep notes from each call.

Dallas County Jail Visits

Official Dallas County adult jail pages do not publish a visitation schedule, dress code, video visit vendor, approved visitor list process, or lobby rules. The safe approach is to call the temporary jail before traveling. Ask whether the person is eligible for visits, whether visits are in person or video, whether visitors must be on an approved list, what photo ID is accepted, and which entrance is used at the temporary facility.

Dallas County Mail and Money

Dallas County does not publish adult jail mail format, commissary vendor, money-deposit portal, phone vendor, tablet program, or deposit fee schedule in the official pages reviewed. Before sending money, property, mail, or paperwork, call the jail and confirm the current rules. Ask whether mail must include a booking number, whether letters are scanned, whether money orders are accepted, and whether a lobby kiosk or online vendor is used.

Find State and Federal Inmates

If Dallas County Jail cannot confirm custody, use the system that matches the next likely custody stage. The ADOC Inmate Search covers current Alabama state prisoners only. VINELink Alabama can be used for custody status and notifications. BOP Inmate Locator covers federal inmates from 1982 to present. ICE Online Detainee Locator is the immigration detainee search tool.

Dallas County JailRecent local arrest, warrant hold, pretrial custody, local sentence
AlacourtCharges, case status, court actions, settings, and court documents
ADOCSentenced Alabama state prisoner currently in custody

ICEImmigration detention based on A-number or biographical data

Dallas County inmate records ADOC inmate search fields

ADOC does not provide historical county jail records and does not cover people still in Dallas County pretrial custody.

Federal and immigration searches need different identifiers. BOP number search can use a register number, DCDC number, FBI number, or INS number, while name search uses first, middle, last, race, age, and sex. ICE ODLS commonly searches by A-number and country of birth or by biographical details and country. Those systems are not substitutes for the Dallas County jail when the arrest is local and recent.

Avoid Unofficial Inmate Sites

Third-party inmate search sites may mix old jail data, commercial background searches, copied booking data, and records from other states or counties. Dallas County's official sources do not publish a live adult roster, so a third-party result should never be treated as a current custody confirmation. Verify custody with the jail, sheriff office, Circuit Clerk, ADOC, BOP, ICE, or VINELink.

Note: Confirm current custody before scheduling visits, sending money, arranging bond, or relying on a third-party inmate result.
